The Expanding Shank

Jacob Newman invented the expanding shank in 1950 and he and his daughter Susan have been fitting it to rings ever since. Countless women who thought that their rings would remain forever in their jewellery boxes have been able to wear them again.

The ingenious design means that rings can be opened out as demonstrated in the pictures on the right. They can then be slipped over enlarged joints and snapped back in place. The shank is almost invisible such that converted rings look as beautiful as they always did.

Any ring is convertible – wedding bands, single stones, three stones, full or half eternities, wide or tapered styles – existing or newly purchased, antique or modern.
